Sundays
Sundays used to be the day of rest, where people would spend time with there families. And the whole town would be shut down. How did our lives get so full that we have forgotten to take that day of rest? When did over scheduling take over and Sunday just become another working day?
I remember when I was younger that not much was open on Sunday. You did your shopping on Saturday because the shops were closed on Sunday. Even now I find it hard to go out shopping on Sunday because in my mind everyone should be home resting and enjoying their family. If I shop on Sunday that I am helping with the destruction of Sunday, I am keeping someone else from their family because they have to work. I know as one person my not shopping is not going to change this but I can try. Everyone needs a Sunday.
Family time was always on Sunday. It was a time to eat meals together, share stories of the week,or visit family out of town. CBS News Sunday Morning started the day off with feature news and feel good stories that got the whole family talking around the breakfast table. And Sunday morning cartoons, was the only time we as kids got to watch cartoons which made them special. Sundays were spent gardening, picking up the house, reading, writing, and even napping. The afternoons were time for adventure, family picnic or afternoon drives. Sunday dinners were always the best meal of the week, because it had been in the works all day. Family and friends came to visit on Sundays because they knew you would be home. I miss those Sundays.
Our lives have become so full that we seem to have a problem getting everything we think we need to get done in the week and it has spilled over into our Sunday. Time saving inventions have given us more time. But instead of enjoying that time, we are working more, which means we are sleeping less, and spending less and less time with our families. Our priorities have changed. Work and money have become top of our lists and family, rest and Sundays have fallen to the bottom.
How did this happen? How do we change it? I want my Sundays back. We are missing out on the most important things in life by giving up our Sundays. I will never forget all those great family discussions, meals, drives and visits that happened on those Sundays of my childhood. Don't you miss your Sundays too?

Rachel, girl, you nailed it! I agree with everything you wrote. You described the Sundays we still enjoy. The only addition we have is attending church. That helps us center ourselves on something and someone other than ourselves which, goes along with what your wrote. I look forward to Sundays. They are a day of mental, emotional, and physical rest. There is only one thing about Sundays I am bummed about: each and every Sunday is only 24 hours long. Thanks for your post. Good work.
